Most Expensive CS2 Skins: Steam's Top 25 Today and the Record Sales Behind the Headlines

Sukie · Founder & Market Tracker
Sukie built and maintains the price feed behind CS2 Skin Prices, which has recorded the lowest live listing for a fixed list of skins, cases and knives every three days since 31 July 2026, and she tests marketplaces with her own inventory. She writes and updates every guide on CS2 Skin Prices herself.
Last updated: 2026-11-02
Most expensive CS2 skins on the Steam Community Market topped out at $2,032.45 on the morning of 29 October 2026: that was the lowest asking price for a Battle-Scarred Souvenir P250 | Bullfrog, the single dearest listing Steam returned when I sorted every Counter-Strike 2 item by price. The most ever reported paid for one skin is far higher. A StatTrak Factory New AK-47 | Case Hardened in pattern 661 sold privately for more than $1 million in June 2024, as reported by Kotaku. Those two numbers are not in conflict. They measure different markets.
That gap is the whole story of this page, so I keep the two lists apart. The first list is a measurement: the 25 highest lowest-asks on Steam's own market, read between 06:47 and 06:52 UTC on 29 October 2026, with the number of listings behind each one. The second list is a set of famous private sales, and every figure in it is tied to a named publication I opened and read, with the date it was published. Where no outlet I could open reported a number, the number is not here.
In between sits the reason Steam's list looks so odd, with Battle-Scarred Souvenirs and sticker slabs where you would expect Dragon Lores: Valve caps a single Steam listing at about $1,800. Anything worth more trades somewhere else, so it never shows up on Steam at all.
Steam's dearest listings on 29 October 2026 sit between $1,800 and $2,032
This is the measured list. I called the search endpoint that powers the Steam Community Market for appid 730 (Counter-Strike 2) with no search term, sorted by price from high to low, and read the first 100 results between 06:47 and 06:48 UTC on 29 October 2026, about one request every three and a half seconds. Each result carries the item's market name, its cheapest current asking price in US dollars and the number of active listings. Steam's own ordering was not strictly by the displayed price (a $1,708.81 item sat at position 18, ahead of several $1,800 ones), so I re-sorted the 100 rows by the asking price shown and kept the top 25 for the table below.

| 25 | ESL One Cologne 2014 Cobblestone Souvenir Package | Souvenir package | $1,800.00 | 1 |
Read the last column before you read the prices. Twenty-four of the top 25 had exactly one listing. A single listing is one seller's asking price, and nobody has to agree with it. When I asked Steam's price overview for three of the top five items a few minutes later, it returned the same lowest price for each and no median sale price or sales volume field at all. The Glock-18 | Fade (Factory New), which had three listings, gives a sense of how fast these figures move: it showed $1,792.90 in the search results at 06:48 UTC and $1,788.68 in the price overview four minutes later. Every price in the table is an ask on that morning, not a sale and not a valuation.
The spread is tiny for a list that is supposed to rank the most valuable items in the game. Across all 100 rows the lowest asks ran from $1,636.24 to $2,032.45, with a median of $1,725.00. Fifteen items asked exactly $1,800.00, and 18 asked more than that. A ranking whose first and hundredth places are $400 apart is not telling you which skin is worth the most. It is telling you where Steam's ceiling is, which is the subject of the next section but one.
If you only care about knives, the dearest knife listing that morning was a Minimal Wear StatTrak™ Karambit | Case Hardened at $1,968.66, one copy. That answers the common question in other languages too, whether it is asked as "dyreste kniv" or "dyraste kniven": on Steam, on that date, it was this Karambit. The dearest gloves were a Minimal Wear Specialist Gloves | Pillow Punchers at $1,975.25, and the dearest ordinary weapon skin with no Souvenir tag was a Field-Tested AK-47 | Gold Arabesque at $1,800.00 (two listings), with the Factory New Glock-18 | Fade just behind it.
Souvenirs, sticker slabs and stickers fill most of Steam's top 100
Sort the 100 rows by type and the result looks nothing like a typical "most expensive skins" article. I classified each row from its Steam market name and the item type Steam attaches to it:
- Souvenir weapon skins: 30. Ten of them are Battle-Scarred or Well-Worn copies, such as the Battle-Scarred Souvenir P250 | Bullfrog at the top, a Well-Worn Souvenir MP7 | Forest DDPAT at $1,777.00 and a Battle-Scarred Souvenir Tec-9 | Raw Ceramic at $1,799.98.
- Sticker slabs: 27. Steam files these as charms (the item type reads "Customized Exotic Charm" or similar). Several carry stickers from 2014 and 2015 tournaments, and several from Cologne 2026.
- Stickers: 14. Eight are gold player autographs from Krakow 2017 and Boston 2018, plus the Katowice 2014 Natus Vincere sticker at $1,798.00 and Fnatic (Holo) Katowice 2014 at $1,702.70.
- Knives: 14, eight of them StatTrak™.
- Gloves: 9.
- Ordinary weapon skins: 5, including the Factory New M4A1-S | Hot Rod at $1,691.48 and the Factory New M4A4 | The Coalition at $1,696.13.
- A container: 1, the ESL One Cologne 2014 Cobblestone Souvenir Package at $1,800.00.
Eighty of the 100 had a single listing, and the 100 rows together held only 131 listings. That is a thin market. A lot of what sits at the top of a price-sorted Steam search is a seller testing a price close to the cap, often on an item where Steam shows only that one copy.
It also means the famous names are missing for a reason, not by accident. No AWP | Dragon Lore and no M4A4 | Howl appear in the top 100, and the next section shows that they did not appear anywhere on Steam that morning. If you want those, our pages on the AWP Dragon Lore price and the Souvenir Dragon Lore follow them through our own price feed instead.
Why does the real top of the market trade off Steam?
Valve states the limit itself. Its Community Market FAQ, which I read on 29 October 2026, says: "Currently we are restricting Steam Wallet balances to $2000 … We also limit the maximum price of a single listing on the market to $1800 (or similar for other currencies)." A second answer on the same page puts it as "approximately equivalent to $1800 USD in your listing currency". The FAQ also says a seller cannot list an item if their existing wallet balance plus the sale price would exceed the $2,000 wallet limit, and that Market funds cannot be withdrawn to a bank.
That one rule explains the shape of the table above. The ceiling is set in each seller's own currency and described as approximate, which is consistent with a handful of listings showing a little above $1,800 once converted to dollars. It does not let anyone list a $10,000 skin. So when I searched Steam for "AWP Dragon Lore" and for "M4A4 Howl" at 06:48 UTC, both searches returned zero items, and the price overview for a Factory New AWP | Dragon Lore returned no lowest price at all. Not one copy of either skin, in any wear, was for sale on Valve's market.
The same skins are listed on third-party marketplaces, and my price feed tracks the cheapest of those asks every three days across CSFloat, Skinport, market.csgo, CS.MONEY and Buff.market. Steam is deliberately not part of that comparison. On the 1 November 2026 refresh:
| Item | Lowest third-party ask, 1 November 2026 | On Steam, 29 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| AWP | Dragon Lore (Factory New) | $9,799 | no listing |
| AWP | Dragon Lore (Minimal Wear) | $8,171 | no listing |
| M4A4 | Howl (Factory New) | $6,408 | no listing |
| AWP | Dragon Lore (Field-Tested) | $5,927 | no listing |
| Souvenir AWP | Dragon Lore (Field-Tested) | $5,901 | no listing |
| AWP | Dragon Lore (Well-Worn) | $5,482 | no listing |
| AWP | Dragon Lore (Battle-Scarred) | $4,204 | no listing |
| M4A4 | Howl (Field-Tested) | $4,038 | no listing |
Even the cheapest of those, a Field-Tested Howl, asks far more than Steam's single dearest listing did. So the honest answer to "what is the most expensive skin you can buy right now" depends on the venue. On Steam it is whatever sits under the cap that day. Off Steam, among the items my feed tracks, it is the Factory New Dragon Lore at $9,799. Neither is the record. The records are private deals between collectors, and they only become public when someone reports them.
If you are thinking about buying at this level, read our comparison of the best CS2 skin marketplaces first. Five-figure items are also where the professional scams are, which our guide to CS2 skin scams covers.
Who recorded the record sales?
The second list is history, and none of it is my measurement. Each row below is a sale or offer that a named outlet reported, with the outlet and publication date, and the wording follows the article. A sale reported as "more than $1 million" stays "more than $1 million" here. I have not added figures from price-guide sites or aggregators, because I could not trace them to a reported deal.
| Date reported | Item as described | Reported price | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 June 2024 | StatTrak Factory New AK-47 | Case Hardened, Blue Gem pattern 661 | Sold for "over a million dollars"; exact amount not revealed | Kotaku (Willa Rowe), citing journalist Jake Lucky on X |
| 5 June 2024 | StatTrak Minimal Wear AK-47 | Case Hardened, pattern 661, sold in 2022 | $400,000 | Kotaku, same article |
| 17 April 2023 | AK-47 | Case Hardened, pattern 661, with four Katowice 2014 Titan Holo stickers, plus a Karambit | Case Hardened "Blue Gem" | $400,000 for the AK-47 and $100,000 for the Karambit, $500,000 in total | Hypebeast (Brycen Saunders) |
| 31 January 2018 | Souvenir Factory New AWP | Dragon Lore with an autograph sticker of Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, MVP of the ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018 | "More than $61,000" | PC Gamer (Andy Chalk) |
| 5 June 2024 | An unnamed Blue Gem knife | Owner turned down an offer of "roughly $1.5 million"; not a sale | Kotaku, same article |
A few details from those articles are worth keeping, because they change how you read the numbers.
- The $1 million figure is a floor. Kotaku's headline says "over $1 million", and the article says the specific amount "has not been revealed". Anyone quoting an exact seven-figure price for that AK-47 is quoting something Kotaku did not.
- The two $400,000 reports may not describe the same deal. Kotaku dates a $400,000 sale of a Minimal Wear StatTrak 661 to 2022. Hypebeast, in April 2023, reports a $400,000 sale of a 661 AK-47 carrying four Katowice 2014 Titan Holo stickers, as part of a $500,000 two-item trade, and calls it record-breaking. Hypebeast's article does not say whether that AK-47 was StatTrak or what its wear was. I list both and do not merge them.
- The Dragon Lore record was a Souvenir with a specific sticker. PC Gamer says the skin was Factory New with "unscratched" stickers, came from a Cobblestone souvenir package, and carried the autograph of the Boston Major MVP. It sold the day after Cloud9 won that Major. PC Gamer adds, citing an interview the seller gave Polygon, that the collector had originally bought it for $35,000.
- A refused offer is not a price. The $1.5 million figure in Kotaku's piece is an offer the owner turned down. It says something about demand. It does not say anything was paid.
You will see much larger numbers on other "most expensive" lists, often stated as fact with no outlet attached. Some of them may be true. I could not open a press report for them, so they are not on this page.
A pattern number or a sticker can be worth more than the skin underneath
Look at what the records have in common. None of them is "an AK-47 | Case Hardened" or "a Souvenir Dragon Lore" in general. Each is one specific copy: a particular pattern, a particular set of stickers, a particular tournament autograph. Steam's market cannot show that difference, because the market name only carries the weapon, the finish, the wear tier and the StatTrak™ or Souvenir tag. There is no pattern number in the name.
The clearest way to see the effect is to price the same market name on Steam. On 29 October 2026 at 06:52 UTC:
- StatTrak™ AK-47 | Case Hardened (Minimal Wear), the item name Kotaku gives for the 2022 $400,000 sale, had a lowest Steam ask of $699.00. The record copy and that $699 copy share a market name. What separates them is the pattern.
- StatTrak™ AK-47 | Case Hardened (Factory New), the item name of the reported $1 million sale, had no Steam listing at all.
- ★ Karambit | Case Hardened listed in every wear tier except Factory New. The cheapest non-StatTrak copies ran from $796.77 in Battle-Scarred (nine listings) to $1,218.60 in Minimal Wear (four listings). The StatTrak™ Minimal Wear copy at $1,968.66 was the dearest knife on Steam that morning.
Stickers work the same way. Hypebeast's 2023 report says each of the four Katowice 2014 Titan Holo stickers on the record AK-47 was worth "about $60,000". That is the outlet's estimate of value, not a sale. On Steam that morning, two other Katowice 2014 stickers sat in the top 100, Natus Vincere at $1,798.00 and Fnatic (Holo) at $1,702.70. Those are the pressed-up-against-the-cap end of the same old sticker market.
Souvenirs add a third layer: which match and which player's autograph. The Dragon Lore that PC Gamer reported was valuable because it was a Factory New Souvenir, and also because it bore the MVP's signature from the Major that had just ended. Our Souvenir Dragon Lore page covers the tradeable Field-Tested end of that market, which my feed has tracked since 31 July 2026.
The practical lesson for anyone pricing an inventory is that a list of "most expensive skins" ranks item names, while the record prices attach to individual copies. Before you assume your Case Hardened is worth a fortune, check the pattern against a source you trust and look at what that exact item name actually lists for. A Field-Tested AK-47 | Case Hardened had a lowest third-party ask of $176.87 on 1 November 2026, which is where most copies of the skin really sit.
How to check a "most expensive" claim before you repeat it
Most pages ranking for this search mix the three kinds of number above into one list: a Steam ask, a third-party ask and a reported private sale, often with no date. Here is the short checklist I use, in the order I use it.
- Is it an ask, a sale or an estimate? A lowest listing is what one seller wants. A sale is what someone paid. An estimate or a refused offer is neither. Only the second tells you what an item is worth, and private sales are rarely fully disclosed.
- Which venue? On Steam, nothing can list above about $1,800, so a Steam figure for a five-figure skin is either a misread or a different item. Third-party venues have no such ceiling, and their prices differ from each other. Name the venue every time.
- What date? The Glock-18 | Fade in the top table moved by $4.22 in four minutes. A price without a date is a guess about the present.
- Which copy? For Case Hardened, Fade, Doppler and Souvenir items, the record price belongs to one copy with one pattern or one set of stickers. The market name alone does not carry it.
- Who reported the sale? If you cannot find a named outlet, or the parties to the trade, describing the deal, treat the number as a claim. The $61,000 Dragon Lore and the $1 million AK-47 both trace back to named articles. Many larger figures in circulation do not.
To watch how the dearest tracked skins move over time, rather than at one moment, use our CS2 skin price tracker. For the economics behind four-figure knife prices, see why CS2 knives are so expensive. The CS2 skin price checker lists every item my feed follows with its current lowest price, and the cs2skinprices.com homepage explains how the feed is built. If you want to confirm any Steam figure on this page yourself, the same Steam Community Market search sorted by price will show you the current ceiling in a few seconds. Expect the items to have changed. Expect the band just under $2,000 to look much the same.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most expensive CS2 skin ever sold?
The highest reported sale is a StatTrak Factory New AK-47 | Case Hardened in Blue Gem pattern 661, which sold for more than $1 million, as reported by Kotaku on 5 June 2024. The exact price was not revealed. Kotaku also reported that the owner of a Blue Gem knife had turned down an offer of roughly $1.5 million, but that was an offer, not a sale.
What was the most expensive CS:GO skin sold in 2023?
Hypebeast reported on 17 April 2023 that an AK-47 | Case Hardened in pattern 661 with four Katowice 2014 Titan Holo stickers sold for $400,000, in a two-item trade with a Karambit | Case Hardened "Blue Gem" ($100,000) worth $500,000 in total. Hypebeast described it as record-breaking at the time.
Why can't I find a Dragon Lore on the Steam Market?
Because it costs more than Steam allows a single listing to ask. Valve's Community Market FAQ limits a listing to about $1,800. On 29 October 2026 a Steam search for "AWP Dragon Lore" returned no items, while the cheapest Factory New copy on third-party marketplaces asked $9,799 on the 1 November 2026 refresh of our feed.
What is the most expensive knife on Steam right now?
On 29 October 2026 the dearest knife listing on the Steam Community Market was a StatTrak™ Karambit | Case Hardened (Minimal Wear) at $1,968.66, one copy. Steam's listing cap of about $1,800 means no knife can be listed there for much more than that, so the most expensive knives overall trade on other marketplaces or privately.
